Bath 2

I went back to Bath a little bit ago for the afternoon to check out some of the things we weren't able to on our first visit. I took one of those bus tours around the city.

The view of the Pulteney Bridge.

One of the things Bath is famous for is the mineral water. pumped from the hot springs. At the Roman Baths, you can get a sample of it. It is supposed to have healing powers. I didn't get to try it because no one was there, so maybe next time. I hear it is rather unpleasant.

One of the round abouts.

Some row homes in Bath.

When we got here, we got memberships to the National Trust, which is like the national parks in the US. One of the National Trust sites is in Bath called Prior Park, which is a landscaped garden.
The Grotto. It was currently going under restoration.

This house was designed for Ralph Allen. Most of the building in Bath are made out of Bath stone and he wanted to get contracts with people outside of Bath to use it. He was able to get a few, such as a couple of train stations and the back of Buckingham Palace is made out of Bath stone. However, not many people were interested in Bath stone. So he built this huge house on top of the hill so all could see how wonderful Bath stone is. He designed the house so that all of Bath could look up and see it and he could see all of Bath. It is currently part of a small, private college.

The view of Bath from top of the hill.

There was some serious hiking involved.

When I first got there, I was warned at the gate that the swans could be pretty aggressive, but this one was swimming peacefully in the lake.

This is a Palladian bridge and is one of 4 left. It looks like something right out of a Jane Austin novel.

The couple who took the picture of me were visiting Bath for their 20th anniversary. They went to Bath for their honeymoon and decided to come back for their anniversary.
