Nice, France

The next day in Nice we spent walking around and enjoying the city. My brother, Kevin, served his mission in the south of France and this is one of the cities he was in. I always knew I shouldn't have felt bad for him on his mission. :)
This is the Place Massena. It's at the junction of the Old Town Nice and the newer part.

We walked through the famous flower market. You could buy a ton of different things here. Local artists were also there, selling their paintings.

We spent a lot of time walking around Old Town.

We went to the Colline du Chateau Park, which is on top of a hill overlooking the city.

There is a big cemetery there, split into different religions. This was the Jewish cemetery.
We loved the tiled wall.

The harbor with more gigantic yachts.

View of Nice. Old Town is the area with the orange tiled roofs.
One of the main attractions of the Colline du Chateau Park is this big waterfall they have. We spend ages looking for it and when we finally did, it was shut down for the winter. It's not as pretty all dried up.

I LOVED the color of the Mediterranean Sea.

The beach at Nice is different than any I have seen before. My brother told me it would be pebbles. They were giant rocks. The rocks were perfectly smooth from the water, but they were pretty big.

Looking up at the Colline du Chateau Park.

It's really hard to walk on the rocks. Gavin was standing close to the water and wasn't able to move away fast enough when a big wave came. He got pretty soaked.
The Nice Opera House.
I don't know what this is and it kind of freaked me out.

This is a famous hotel along the Promenade des Anglais. It served as a hospital during the war.
I really want to buy a hat now.

The Place Massena fountains.
The Palais du Justice.

We headed back into Old Town to do some shopping and to wander around.

Old Town was filled with tiny alleys with shops on either side. It was a lot of fun.

One of the many churches in Old Town.
The church pictured above had a nativity scene set up outside in the courtyard. I love
how everyone is covered in lights.
I loved the Place Massena at night. It was completely light up and decorated for Christmas.

The Fountain du Soliel.

Nice is an absolutely beautiful city. It's more laid back than Paris. People from there are very clear that they are from the South of France and make sure you know that they have nothing to do with the rest of France (Gavin made the mistake of asking someone if they were from Paris). We loved Nice. It was definently one of the highlights of our trip.
