The Catacombs and the Lachaise Cemetary

On Halloween, we went to the Catacombs. Since they were fairly close to our hotel, we decided to walk there. We walked the Jardin Du Luxembourg, which was really pretty.

There is a pond in the middle with some fountains and lots of ducks. The ducks even have their own little home.

The Catacombes were really cool and creepy. It is this vast network of tunnels under the streets, but now you can only tour a small section of it since people were damaging the bones. There are secret entrances to the tunnels where people like to go tour them on their one. That thought really creeped me out...

The entrance.

In one of the hallways.

This is a stairway that was part of the closed off section.

The Death Room. Some of the pictures are really blurry because you can't use a flash and I'm not very steady with the camera. They got fancy with some of the bones and made designs. If you can't tell, this one is some skulls in a heart.
A real skull and cross bone.

There are a ton of bones there. The stacks were really deep and really tall.

I finally got a good one of Gavin! He was sick of posing for a picture, but I was determined to get a non-blurry one of him.

The camera is showing it lighter there, but it was pretty dark down there. Every so often, there would be a light, but for the most part, it was really dark.

The ceiling before the exit.

After the Catacombs, we went to the Lachaise Cemetery. It houses a lot of famous people. It was incredible beautiful.

Oscar Wilde's grave.

People kissed all over it.

I didn't kiss it. It looked gross.

Some of the graves were really well taken care of. We passed a couple of people actually washing the tombs.

This grave was slightly open. We looked in but couldn't really see anything.

Each sidewalk was lined with little buildings like this. Most were locked, but some were open. We weren't sure what they were for because the ones that were open held supplies and garbage and other random stuff.

I loved looking at the tall tombstones.

Jim Morrison's grave. I was surprised where it was. It's tucked away in a corner and is hard to get to.
Frederick Chopin's grave.
